ABSTRACT
Emerging technologies and continuous improvements of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Information and Communication Technology (IT) are leading to new opportunity to overcome some of the modern agriculture challenges. Indeed, remote sensing and crop modelling were empowered by new airborne sensors and technologies, which are proving their effectiveness in an growing number of applications. Recently, UAVs proved to be effective also in implementing specific in-field operations, allowing to properly and timely targeting specific issues. The session is open to a wide range of new studies on UAV and ICT applications for improving agricultural applications. Contributions on crop modelling and mapping using hyperspectral, multispectral and thermal imagery are welcomed, together with recent 3D crop modelling methods. The interest spans an entire spectrum of new solution and application of UAV airborne technologies and of the new processing methods to extract valuable crop information from acquired huge datasets.

ABOUT THE CONVENERS
Prof. Paolo Gay, Degree in Electronic Engineering and PhD in Systems and Computer Engineering, is a Full Professor of Agricultural Engineerinng at the University of Torino, Dept. of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences. He is author of more than 160 paper published in international journals and conference proceedings. He is/was Principal Investigator (PI) in more than twenty competitive research projects. His research interests are in precision farming, robotics for agriculture and protected crops, modelling of agricultural processes and systems.
Prof. Giorgio Guglieri is full professor of flight mechanics at Politecnico di Torino. He is a senior member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) and AHS (American Helicopter Society). Author of several articles published in international journals and conferences of the following sectors: aerospace engineering, control, automation and robotics. He is involved in research activities in the following fields: flight mechanics of fixed and rotary wing aircraft, flight simulation, design of human-machine interfaces for robotics, development and testing of unmanned aerial systems, planning and mission control for autonomous systems, design of guidance, control and navigation systems for aircraft and spacecraft.
Dr. Lorenzo Comba, Electrical Engineer and PhD in Agricultural, Forestry and Agri-food Sciences. He is adjunct professor at Università degli Studi di Torino and Politecnico di Torino. He is a member of the Agricultural Mechatronics research group of the DISAFA and of the TEBERG at the Politecnico di Torino. He is currently a research fellow at Energy Department of the Politecnico di Torino. He collaborates to numerous national and international projects concerning remote sensing, automation and robotics for agriculture. He is author of more than 60 scientific papers, 12 on peer-reviewed international journals.
Dr. Alessandro Matese, Degree in Natural Sciences at Florence University (Italy), Department of geomorphology (1994), PhD in Agriculture, Forest and Food Science, Doctoral School of Sciences and Innovative Technologies, Torino University (Italy). Researcher at National Research Council - Institute of Biometeorology (CNR-IBIMET), Italy (2004-Current). Main research topics: Remote sensing of agroecosystems, precision agriculture, precision forestry, UAV and Satellite remote sensing, wireless sensors network, biogeochemical cycles, data fusion, machine learning, computer vision and geostatistics. Author of more than 50 papers mainly published on scientific journals. Principal investigator of several national and international projects.
Fabrizio Sarghini has a PhD in aerospace engineering and is an associate professor of Equipment and Industrial Plant in Food Industry, University of Naples Federico II, Italy. In his career, he has been visiting scientist at NASA Langley Research Center and Research Associate at University of Maryland, College Park, USA. His research today focuses on modeling and simulation in food and agricultural processing, sensor development and applications, including the use of AI in agri-food applications . He is now involved in several researches related to the use of drones in agriculture and possible use in pathogen detection and artificial pollination. He has authored over 80 scientific papers published in international journals, books, and international conferences. He is Chair and Co-Organizer of the MSFS Summer School Series in Modeling and Simulation in Food and Bio-Processing.
