ABSTRACT
This special session explores the use of contactless measurement techniques and computer vision technologies in agriculture, forestry and zootechnics. Innovations in this field can revolutionize productivity, sustainability, and efficiency across the agri-food value chain. Precision agriculture benefits from real-time monitoring of crop growth and soil conditions. In forestry, such technologies play a crucial role in timber production and monitoring ecosystem health. In zootechnics, they enhance livestock management and welfare assessment. Contributions are sought on topics relating to crop monitoring, disease detection, soil sensing, livestock behaviour analysis and forest management. The session aims to showcase cutting-edge research and practical applications. Contributions highlighting challenges and opportunities in adopting these technologies are encouraged. Overall, this special session aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the role of contactless measurements and computer vision in shaping the future of these industries.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
Alessandro Annessi, completed his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Marche in 2018, followed by a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering in 2022, both at the same university within the Department of Industrial Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, specializing in mechanical and thermal measurement. Currently, he serves as a research fellow in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences, focusing on precision agriculture for olive harvesting. His primary research interests encompass vibrations and wave propagation, vibrational metamaterials, optical measurements including LDVs and triangulation systems, vision-based techniques, and signal processing applied to various sectors such as industrial, agricultural, biomedical, and NDT.
Milena Martarelli is associate professor in the Engineering Faculty of Università Politecnica delle Marche. She is the Director of the Interdepartmental Center for Advanced Research on Measurements for Engineering and Life Optimization (C.A.R.M.E.L.O.) joining together different research groups of the Università Politecnica delle Marche, from Industrial and Information Engineering to Medicine, Natural Sciences and Agriculture. She obtained her PhD in Mechanical Dynamics at Imperial College of London. Her field of research is focused on the topics of the mechanical and thermal measurements and specifically her expertise is on optical and vision-based measurement techniques, from laser Doppler vibrometry to imaging in the visible and IR spectrum. She studies the application of those measurement techniques to diagnostics, on-line quality control, structural dynamics, precision in agriculture, and forensics.
Paolo Castellini received the PhD degree in 1996 at University of Padova, Italy and in 1997 he joined the University of Ancona, as a researcher, in 2011 as Associate Professor and in 2019 as Full Professor, where he teaches Mechanical and Thermal Measurements and Testing. He has more than 30 years activity in the development and application of instrumentation for mechanical measurements in dynamic analysis and vibro-acoustic.
